INSECT PEST OF DENDROBIUM ORCHID: Thrips palmi Karny, เพลี้ยไฟกล้วยไม้

Dendrobium orchids are cut-flowers for export of Thailand. Thrips palmi Karny is the predominant species which attacked orchids, its feeding cause damage symptoms such as distorted blossom, deformed or scarred on flowers, colorless spot on petal. It rarely found severe infestation in the fields, but T. palmi is a problem of exported orchids because it can be carried on flowers and the risk that exported flowers found to be infested will be rejected by quarantine inspectors. Insecticide control is a common tool that farmers use to reduce the number of thrips on flowers.
